Trip to Vicksburg and the Battlefield National Park:
Day one: We left Houston, heading up 59 to 190 East, and picking up 63 east of Jasper. We cut across Louisiana, passing through Alexandria, and spent the first night in Natchez.
Day two: We picked up the Natchez Trace and rode as far as Port Gibson, where we exited onto 61 and headed north to Vicksburg. We found a place to have an early lunch, checked into the hotel, and headed across the street to the National Park, where we spent the rest of the afternoon.
Day three: Woke up early, got packed, and headed for home, this time going west out of Vicksburg and straight out I-20 to Bossier City, where we had lunch. We took 171 south to 6, which becomes 21 in Texas. This was a very scenic road, crossing through Angelina National Forest to Lufkin. From there we took 59 home. |
